Representatives of Khon Kaen Chamber of Commerce, Phongsavanh Group and Mekong Group Pte Ltd join hands after signing a memorandum of understanding to begin an operational study for the launch of Khonkaen Airlines, on Wednesday. Khon Kaen Chamber of Commerce, Phongsavanh Group of Laos and Mekong Group Pte Ltd from Singapore have signed a memorandum of understanding to study the operational details of establishing Khonkaen Airlines. He said Khon Kaen international airport serves around 1.5 million passengers a year, and several foreign airlines have expressed interest in adding it to their itineraries. Somboon Phongsavanh, chairman of Phongsavanh Group, said it would be a historic event for the company to participate in operating an airline in a foreign country. The initial routes are likely to link Khon Kaen with destinations along the Mekong River, in China and elsewhere in Asia.
